A solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a contract between a fund (known as the "offtaker") and an electricity consumer (known as the "host" or "customer").

Under a solar PPA, the solar fund agrees to finance, install, operate, and maintain a solar energy system on the customer's property. It is an initiative that allows individuals or businesses to have solar panels installed on their rooftops without incurring the upfront costs of purchasing and installing the solar system. The property owner, in turn, agrees to lease their rooftop space to the fund and purchase the electricity generated by the solar system at a predetermined rate over a specified period, usually ranging from 10 to 25 years.

Eligibility Checks: A solar design is completed on the property along with a self consumption calculation of the energy used by the business. This calculation determines the size of system you can have installed and how much of the energy from that system you are likely to use. Then a soft credit check is conducted on the business by the fund (this will not impact on your credit score). 

Agreement: Assuming you meet the eligibility criteria, the PPA and lease are prepared by the fund and signed by the customer. 

System Installation: The fund finances the installation of the solar panels and associated equipment on the customer's property. The installation is then carried out by a professional installation team. 

Electricity Generation: The solar system generates electricity from the sun's energy. This electricity can be used directly by the customer with any excess fed into the grid.

Power Purchase: The customer purchases the electricity generated by the solar system from the fund. The price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is determined and agreed upon in the PPA.

Billing and Payment: The customer receives a monthly bill for the electricity consumed from the solar system, usually at a rate lower than the prevailing utility rates. Payments are made based on the energy generated from the solar system or a predetermined price.

The customer does not need to invest in purchasing the solar system or bear the costs of installation and maintenance. The solar fund owns and operates the system. You can start reaping the benefits of solar energy immediately, without any capital investment.
